Due to the change in the route schedule, the convoy destined for Arlington National Cemetery will not be traveling through Connecticut this year. Through the efforts of Patty Ptak of the Patriot Guard Riders we will be sending one truck from the convoy to make stops at the below listed events before rejoining the convoy headed to Arlington.
The stops are as follows:
December 6, 2011-
ENFIELD, CT – FINAL STAGING AND MISSION BRIEF
8:00 am with KSU at 8:45 am.
CHICAGO SAM’S – 95 Elm Street, Enfield, CT 06082, there is a Dunkin Donuts near the main road. Please meet there. Only the truck will be parking in front of Chicago Sam’s.
From the North – Merge onto I-91 South toward Agawam, Hartford, CT. Take the Elm Street/CT 220 exit, Exit 48, toward Thompsonville. Turn left onto CT 220/Elm Street.
From the South – Merge onto I091 North toward Hartford. Take the Elm Street/CT 220 exit, Exit 48. Turn right onto CT 220/Elm Street.
We will be escorted by the local Police Department and Fire Department to the school.
PORTLAND, CT
We will be arriving at Valley View Elementary School. Grades K – 2, 81 High Street, Portland, CT at 11:00 am. They will begin their program a little before we get there and will meet us outside for our arrival. The local Police Department will be pick us up at the Arrigoni Bridge and escort us in. We will get ready to move out about 12:00 pm to head to Haddam.
HADDAM, CT
We will arrive at the Haddam Elementary School, K-4, 272 Saybrook Road, Higganum, CT, about 12:00. We will have a Wreath laying at the Green with local organizations with a possibility of going over to the school. The children plan on being at the Green for the ceremony. The school and Green are across the street from each other. Final details are still being worked on.
OLD SAYBROOK, CT
Ceremony on the Green – 5:30 pm
We will have a little time in between Haddam and the beginning of the ceremony on the Green at Old Saybrook. We will be setting a new final stage shortly. We also would like to set up a Flag Line at the Green for the ceremony. The town of Old Saybrook and the VFW has graciously invited the people of the escort for a dinner at the VFW after the ceremony.
