A Year Round Living Tribute To Our Veterans
Under a quiet blanket of winter and snow, the trees that produce the evergreen tips for Wreaths Across America are a living, growing memorial to our brave men and women who wear the uniform and sacrifice so much. Over the last several years, a number of Gold Star families and veterans have visited the land in Maine to hang simple dog tag, and claim their memorial tree.
Many readers might not know that for Wreaths Across America Founder Morrill Worcester, managing his land and the trees that give up their boughs every three years is one of his greatest joys. Here is a recent post from Facebook that WAA Executive Director Karen Worcester shared with one of the families, long after the wreaths were placed in December. This one commemorates Capt. Joshua Byers, son of Lloyd and Mary Byers (National President of the American Gold Star Mothers).
For more about the Memorial Trees, here is the story as told by Heremy Moorhead of CNN, who visited the land in November prior to this year’s Wreaths Across America events.
