Mission Matters with Karen Worcester Returns to Wreaths Radio

The Wreaths Across America mission to remember, honor, and teach is a year-round mindset carried out daily by millions of volunteers and supporters across this great nation and overseas. As we work toward National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, December 19, 2020, Wreaths Across America’s Executive Director, Karen Worcester, takes the time to interview folks who have impacted the mission, or the military community, in a meaningful way. She shares those candid discussions with the public on her internet radio program, Mission Matters.

Mission Matters airs Wednesday at 10 AM, and again at 7:00 PM EST. This episode features the history and outreach of the American Bible Society (ABS) with guests, Senior Vice President, Rev. Dr. Jim Puchy and Dr. Paul V. McCullough III, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army, Retired, Senior Field Manager of the Armed Services Ministry with ABS.

In the show open, Karen is quick to make the disclaimer that Wreaths Across America, as a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization, is all inclusive and any discussion of religion or politics on her show would only be in direct context to how they impact the military and veterans. “Having said that,” Karen continues, “the vast numbers of people I come into contact within the military are so devout and dependent on their faith to get them through situations they encounter. I’m floored by the rich history of the American Bible Society, and I wanted to share that with our listeners.”

“Our founder’s address to the nation was read on the step of city hall in New York City on May 11, 1816,” explains the Rev. Dr. Jim Puchy. “The Armed Service Ministry gave out its first grant of bibles to the sailors aboard the U.S.S. John Adams in New York City Harbor. Our founders were also the founders of America. Our first President was Elias Boudinot who served on George Washington’s staff in charge of commissary services for the Continental Army, and was the first Director of the U.S. Mint in the United States.” Another famous leader of the American Bible Society was Francis Scott Key, the man who penned the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.

The American Bible Society made a big move from New York to Philadelphia in 2015 with its new headquarters situated across from Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and National Constitution Center. Currently, ABS is constructing the Faith and Liberty Discovery Center that will tie all that history together.
