WREATH LAYING INSTRUCTIONS:  Two locked tractor trailers, one at the flag pole and one at GBS Memorial near Section , will have teams handing out wreaths after the ceremony.  IF YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE FOR WHICH YOU WILL BE PLACING A WREATH, YOU WILL BE INVITED TO GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE TO RECEIVE YOUR TWO WREATHS.  Each volunteer will be given 2 wreaths because we had 3000 volunteers signed up last year and many had none!  You may go back to get another when 2 are placed.  If a wreath or vase is already there, simply move to the left and place WAA wreath against the stone at a 45-degree angle so the name may be read and then SAY THEIR NAME OUT LOUD.  You may render a salute to head or heart.  There are no reserved wreaths and no reserved graves.  Your loved one’s section is your assigned section!!  Go directly to your loved one’s site first to place your wreath.  If you arrive and someone has already honored your loved one by placing a wreath, you may replace with your wreath and put that one on another’s. Say the name out loud, pause as long as you wish.  If you planned on placing more than one wreath in more than one section, it will probably already have been placed.  Simply walk to that loved one’s site, replace with your wreath, and honor them by saying their name out loud.  Place only one wreath per site.  No wreaths on the back.   All Garden Niches get one wreath each.  All Columbarium Walls get one wreath at the bottom of each column, overlaying right over left.

If you have no loved one in a section, ask the person next to you to take you to their section.  You will need to know your loved one’s site before you come because only one site locator is available there.  Go to https://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/  to enter your loved one’s name and see location. Allow those volunteers in walkers, wheelchairs and senior citizens to place their wreaths across the front rows.  All able-bodied should expect to walk as we place wreaths.  Please use care not to have a slip/slide.   YES, we have been requested by many with Star of David and Moslem Crescent to place a memorial wreath! When all wreaths have been placed, go flatten a wreath box for disposal to help the cemetery staff.  Boxes all need to go back in the trailers.

Do not remove any wreaths from NYGBSNS.  Wreaths are federal property and a federal crime to remove from cemetery.  You will be asked to turn them in by the Guardians and parking attendants.  Last year we didn’t have enough because people left with wreaths.  If you have an extra, give to the Guardian near you for a section that may still need wreaths.

AT THIS CEREMONY:  which starts at 12:00 noon EST and simultaneously at 1440 cemeteries across our country and internationally, placing 1,204,000 wreaths in 2017, we hope to place 12,100 wreaths.  Ceremony lasts 30 minutes.  December weather is usually cold, wet and/or windy.  Please dress to be outdoors for about two to three hours with warm coat, boots, gloves, warm hat and pocket warmers.  Bring water and snack if necessary.  As you walk, please do not have a slip/slide.  Civil Air Patrol cadets will be rehearsing at the memorial circle with memorial wreath placers at 11:30.   Please watch quietly.  Gen. Philip Schuyler EMS and NYS Police will be available on site.

You will be invited to place wreaths in the section of your choice.  Yes, your loved one’s section is your section of choice.  If you don’t know a section to go to, raise your hand when I ask the question at the ceremony and follow the person next to you.  Civil Air Patrol cadets and senior Members along with active duty military will be handing out wreaths at the trailers. They will be in radio contact with me should anyone have any questions that the cadets cannot answer.  Any observed disrespectful behavior or wreath placement will be asked to stop by the Guardians of the Section identified by safety vests and belts.

WREATH RETIREMENT: 8 AM Saturday, January 26, NYGBSNS and volunteers will do wreath removal. Bring a broom stick without the brush to carry many wreaths for disposal. Contact cemetery in case the wreaths are frozen in ground. 518-581-9128.

Wreaths Across America's "Trucking Tributes" Presents Total Transportation of Mississippi, LLC.

John said he first learned about the Wreaths Across America to remember, honor and teach about five years ago by word-of-mouth through US Xpress....

For The 82nd Airborne Division Association the Mission is a Mindset and It's Personal

According to Mike, chapter members do “grave specific” requests for folks who sponsor wreaths through them, and they do their best to provide photos for those who cannot attend the wreath-laying ceremony in person. They also encourage Gold Star families to join them in Section 60 as they lay the wreaths and say their names....
