Wreaths Across America's Trucking Tributes Presents Reliable Carriers, Inc.

“It’s hard for people to believe and visualize the miles and miles of support Wreaths Across America has,” shares professional driver Steven Gregoire. “Whether it’s rain, or shine, or cold, seeing the people standing beside their houses and on overpasses waving flags is just amazing. When I say goosebumps from start to finish, I’m not kidding.” That’s just one fond memory Steven recalls when talking about his first involvement with Wreaths Across America, hauling a load of veterans’ wreaths. That was back in 2011 while Steven and his wife Erica both worked for Walmart. “I started working for Walmart back in 2007, and in 2011, I was picked along with a handful of other drivers to participate.” Steven picked up a load of wreaths and traveled as part of the annual Wreath Escort to Arlington from Harrington to Augusta, Maine, before splitting off and taking his wreaths to New Hampshire as part of a relay. “It was such an honor to be a part of it.”

Fast forward to 2019. Erica and Steven no longer work for Walmart. Instead, they’ve become a driving duo on the road for Reliable Carriers, Inc.  “I’ve been driving for three years now, and I never wanted to be a truck driver,” Erica laughs. “But it’s turned out well, and I’ve had all kinds of fun. I’ve been to 48 states and places I would never have gone, and it’s a little easier because I get to work with my husband, my best friend.”

Over the years, Erica and Steven have maintained their connection with Wreaths Across America. “For the past three years, we’ve participated in a charity ride on motorcycles, and we’ve ended up at the Wreaths Across America Museum,” Steven explains. Erica continues, “We always take a tour of the tip land, and you get to see those dog tags hanging from the trees. That’s the one thing that always tears at my heart.  When you look out into the forest and see them shimmering in the trees, hundreds and hundreds of them, it makes you feel so small, but yet so humble at the same time. All these people died to protect me, and this is just the little part I can give back to them.”

The “little part” Erica refers to is no small part to play in 2019. She and Steven will haul citizen-sponsored veterans’ wreaths to two participating cemeteries in Florida. They were able to introduce Reliable Carriers to Wreaths Across America, and when they heard Steven and Erica’s pitch about their participation in the organization, Reliable agreed to make them available to support the mission to remember, honor, and teach in December.

In addition to being members of the Honor Fleet this year, Erica is making an extra contribution by singing the National Anthem this year for the driver’s appreciation and sendoff dinner! Thank you, Erica, Steven, and Reliable Carriers, Inc., for your support of the mission!

You can hear more with Erica and Steven in Trucking Tributes on Wreaths Across America Radio which airs every Tuesday at 11:00 AM and again at 4:00 PM (EST)
