For the past few years, Remmer has raised wreath sponsorships the old-fashioned way, going door-to-door with an earnest sales pitch but this year, he’s concerned about the impact Coronavirus will have on that effort.
Wreaths Across America's Kid's Corner Presents Remmer Machamer in Texas
The three objectives of the Wreaths Across America mission are to remember our fallen heroes, honor those who currently serve, and teach younger generations the value of freedom. It’s that last objective that most would agree is vital. President Ronald Reagan may have said it best when he said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
More and more families participate with Wreaths Across America in wreath-laying ceremonies across the country, and about a third of the organizations’ volunteers are young people. In a monthly feature called Kid’s Corner, Wreaths Across America recognizes youth volunteers who step up to do their part, making sure no hometown hero is forgotten. 9-year-old Remmer Machamer volunteers to promote wreath-laying activities at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas. Remmer is a staunch supporter of the mission to remember, honor, and teach. “My grandfather on my dad’s side was a Marine,” Remmer shared regarding his personal connections with the military. Our ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War, and my dad had a friend who was killed in action, so we named our youngest brother after him.”

Remmer says his Mother has been helping with social media postings, and he’s garnered quite a bit of attention locally with various media interviews.
Remmer does a terrific job expressing what motivates him to move forward with the mission in 2020. “Soldiers risked their lives, and some have lost their lives, so I think they all deserve respect and should be remembered.”

What does it mean to sponsor a wreath? It means you are supporting a yearlong mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom. Your sponsorship will support the new and existing programs developed to share the mission. And, it will place a wreath to honor an American hero at one of more than 3,700 participating locations this year on National Wreaths Across America Day – a day set aside to lay gathers as Americans with the same goal.
We can’t do that without your support, though. Your sponsorship will ensure a hand-crafted wreath of all-American balsam and hand-tied with a red velvet bow here in Columbia Falls, Maine. It will then be sent to one of our participating locations, where a volunteer will place it on the marker of a hero. That volunteer will then “say their name” to ensure that the legacy of duty, service, and sacrifice is never forgotten.
So, what does it mean to sponsor a wreath? It means you have the opportunity to join a grateful nation in saying “thank you” to those who stepped up to serve.
