Last year, the Peterborough Girl Scout troop took on the sponsorship of wreaths for the Wreaths Across America program as a service learning project.

The project was launched in November, and over a two-week period 56 wreaths were sponsored. On Wreaths Across America Day, Dec. 18, the Girl Scouts were joined by the Bennington troop, the Sea Cadets, members of Rolling Thunder New Hampshire chapter and members of the community gathered to remember and honor community veterans while laying the 56 wreaths and visiting all veterans' stones in each of the three town cemeteries.

The 2022 sponsorship effort kicked off on May 14 at Peterborough Agway, with 41 wreaths sponsored that morning. The Girl Scouts will be at Belletetes, 188 Concord St. in Peterborough, Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wreath sponsorships are $15, and all sponsorships in Peterborough will go toward wreaths to be placed on one of the 900 veterans' stones in the Peterborough town cemeteries.

At Belletetes, the Girl Scouts have a QR code people can scan on a smartphone to go right to the sponsorship page. People can also go to wreathsacrossamerica.org/nhphtc and click on the sponsor icon. The Girl Scouts will also have a coloring activity for children on which they can write a thank you to a veteran and it will be delivered to a veteran in Peterborough.

Volunteers are needed to lay the wreaths on Wreaths Across America Day Dec. 17 at noon. To help, sign up at the sponsorship booth or when sponsoring a wreath at the website. Peterborough businesses interested in supporting a sponsorship booth by allowing the Girl Scouts to set up in their parking lots should leave a message on the troop’s Facebook page.
