In Memoriam - Vernon R. Shaffer. Mr. Shaffer was a veteran of World War II. He was a radioman aboard the USS William D. Porter in the Pacific Campaign. He survived the sinking of his ship in 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the attack.
