Ceremony and Volunteer Information

We are happy that you are willing to help with our Wreath Across America ceremony at Zion’s Cemetery Co. Inc. of Perry Township on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at noon. Please do not forget to register to volunteer! That way you will get all updates about the cemetery itself.

Here are some things to remember about the ceremony:

                                                             ***UPDATED INFORMATION***

There is a funeral at Zion’s Cemetery on 12/14/2024 around 10:30/11:00 a.m. Please be respectful and extremely quiet for this somber occasion. We plan on continuing with our scheduled Remembrance Ceremony and Veteran Wreaths Placement. The section of the cemetery that has the funeral will be the last section we place the wreaths. Please be aware of your surroundings! There will be workers and equipment there for the burial.

**PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN CEMETERY**

Follow the parking director and park in the church parking lot directly across from the cemetery. After parking, please proceed to the Fellowship Hall (entrance at the back of the church, lower level) to sign in at the “Volunteer Sign In Table”. When you sign in you will be assigned a number for wreath placement. This will allow us to facilitate orderly wreath placement for each section of the cemetery. There will be “section captains” for each section if you have questions.

*Grave specific wreaths will be placed first (immediately following Remembrance Ceremony). Then we will all go to our assigned sections and place the wreaths.

** Remember to take your time when you place the wreath. Please place wreath in front of headstone, on the ground flat, but do not cover the veteran’s name. DO NOT PLACE WREATH ON THE HEADSTONE! Make sure the bow is at the top and then say the soldiers name out loud, pause to remember them and thank them for their service to our country. If there is a wreath there already it was probably laid by the family earlier. Please leave it where it was placed. We still want to acknowledge that soldier so make sure to say their name out loud and thank them for their service. Then place the unused wreath you still have on the next veteran grave. We will have the wreaths counted out ahead of time for each section - that way we know for sure each veteran will get a wreath.

Volunteers may arrive around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday 12/14/2024. Refreshments in Zion Church Fellowship Hall near volunteer sign in table. Please consider signing up for wreath removal and disassembly (we are recycling everything) on Saturday 1/25/2025 at 1:00 p.m. Bring wire cutter, heavy gloves and a rope or broom handle for easy transportation of retired wreaths.

Thank you for helping Wreaths Across America and Zion’s Cemetery Co. Inc. of Perry Township honor and remember our Veterans! See you Saturday!

Volunteers - Please wear high visibility clothing if you have any!

   > Please check in upon arrival in the Fellowship Hall on the lower floor of Zion’s Church (The Church is directly across the street from Zion’s Cemetery Co. Inc.)  Entrance for the Fellowship Hall is at the back of the church.  Restrooms and complimentary refreshments will be available for all volunteers for the event.

  • Everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome.
  • Please help ensure that all participants get the opportunity to place a wreath.
  • Please follow the location coordinators instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as "how" they should be placed.
  • We especially appreciate volunteers willing to help clean-up. Please check in with the location coordinator if you are interested in helping with the clean-up.

The most important thing to remember is to have a wonderful experience participating in the ceremony and thank you so much for help Wreaths achieve our mission to remember, honor and teach.
