Taro Nichols, age 78 of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away on December 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Audrey and daughter, Sherry.
Taro was born to Yoko Nichols on May 7, 1947, in Tokyo, Japan.
On December 11, 2004, Taro married the love of his life, Audrey (Yee), and together they shared 20 years and 11 months of marriage filled with many memories and joy.
Taro came to the United States when he was a teenager. They lived in Portland, Oregon before the family relocated to San Diego, California. He proudly entered the US Navy in 1966 and then took a few years off from the US Navy. Later, he reenlisted in the US Navy and served for over 20 years, including serving in the United States Navy Reserve. Upon retiring from the US Navy, Taro taught pilots how to fly helicopters while in Saudi Arabia. Taro enjoyed taking his family dune bugging in the desert while residing in San Diego, CA. His hobbies included cross-stitching, building things out of wood, yard work, and anything using his hands. In 2010, Taro and his wife, Audrey, relocated to Springdale, Arkansas to be near their newest granddaughter.
Taro was preceded in death by his mother, Yoko Nichols. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Nichols, his siblings, Zack Nichols and his wife Sherry, Scott Nichols, Linda Nichols, and June Sanford Gross and her husband Rick, his children Russell Nichols, Tamara Nichols, Sherry Ryals and her husband Joseph, and Crissandra Jackson and her husband Josh, his grandchildren Anthony Bixler, Arianna Bixler, Aliyah Glass, Tyler Jackson, Jazlyn Jackson, Jaylah Jackson, Jeziah Jackson, Hailey Nichols, Tyler Paradise, Brendyn Quinney, Kayla Kellough, Jordan Ryals, and Brooke-lin Ryals, and one great granddaughter, Paisley Quinney.
Taro will always be remembered as a proud member of the US Navy, loving husband, father, and Papa."

Directions to Cemetery
Navigation systems do an adequate job finding the cemetery. When you arrive, please park at the Baum Stadium parking lot and catch one of the available shuttles to the site of the ceremony itself.
Parking Instructions
Parking will be available at Baum Stadium on the University of Arkansas campus. Shuttle buses will start running to the cemetery at 8:00 AM and will continually run back and forth till 12:00 PM (or until everyone has been returned to pick up there vehicle). We appreciate The University for allowing us to use this space to park vehicles for attendees and volunteersCeremony and Volunteer Information
We are happy that you are willing to help with our Wreath Across America ceremony at Fayetteville National Cemetery. Please do not forget to register to volunteer! That way you will get all updates about the cemetery itself.
Here are some things to remember about the ceremony:
- Everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome.
- Please help ensure that all participants get the opportunity to place a wreath.
- Please follow the location coordinators instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as "how" they should be placed.
- We especially appreciate volunteers willing to help clean-up. Please check in with the location coordinator if you are interested in helping with the clean-up.
The most important thing to remember is to have a wonderful experience participating in the ceremony and thank you so much for help Wreaths achieve our mission to remember, honor and teach.

Welcome to ARFNCF - Fayetteville National Cemetery and thank you deeply for helping us with our goal to honor as many veterans as possible on Wreaths Across America Day, December 13, 2025 (Wreath Placement Immediately Following Ceremony). Please click "View" to learn more about our effort or to volunteer to help or click "Sponsor" to purchase wreaths that will be laid on the graves of our fallen heroes by our loyal volunteers. Volunteers please park at University of Arkansas Baum field and ride the shuttle. No parking will be available that day.
