The patriotic county of Bosque, TX, was honored by having a ship named the USS Bosque. This recognition was due to that county selling more war bonds than any other in the US. Patriotism in this county can be measured by the 125 men and women from 1 church serving in WW II at one time.

While researching a veteran’s memorial, an amazing story was about Chris Morris Hansen, a 2nd Lt. He helped raise the original American flag on Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Navy Cross, second only to the Medal of Honor! He was wounded and was flown to a Navy hospital in the US. There he was attended by a Navy nurse. They fell in love and married. Their daughter is a retired USAF Lt. Col. with 24 years of active duty. That family served our nation in the Marines, Navy, and Air Force.

Ensign Lt. Dorothy “Dottie” Hansen’s military service as a WW II veteran nurse was recognized. She was chosen to participate in the “National Honor Flights” program. She was 1 of 210-10 women, one from Cranfills Gap, TX, to be honored with a flight to Washington DC to visit the WW II memorial built in their honor. It was the first honor flight in TX on Apr 12, 2011.
