Welcome to the Alta Vista Cemetery 's Wreaths Across America Page. 

On December 14, 2024 at 12:00 pm (Wreath Placement Immediately Following Ceremony), Wreaths Across America will be at Alta Vista Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans through the laying of Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud.

MISSION BBQ Customers Donate $347,068 to Sponsor Veterans’ Wreaths for Placement on National Wreaths Across America Day 2024

129 locations will receive veterans’ wreaths because of the generous donations in the communities where MISSION BBQ customers support the mission.

In Memory Of for William (Rich) Higgins, Marine Corps, Honored by Alta Vista Cemetery

In early 1987 Col Higgins was assigned to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) as Chief of the U.N. Military Observer GP in southern Lebanon. In Feb 1988, his unarmed UN convoy was ambushed & he was kidnapped, & murdered by a Gp with links to Hezbollah. Rich, your courage & dedication in selfless service is, and will be remembered. The magnificent USS Higgins (DDG-76) carries your name proudly ...Farewell my friend & - Semper Fidelis - (Part of the Foreword by Gen A.M. Grey, 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps, to the book Patriot Dreams, written by Rich's widow Marine Lt Col Robin Higgins who displayed enormous courage & faith throughout the long ordeal of her husbands captivity & subsequent death. She has given us a powerful book of love, loyalty, jncredible courage, patriotism,... - submitted by a personal comrad in arms at the US Mission to the UN who knew him personally and has a personal copy of Patriot Dreams signed by Robin Higgins.

Navigation systems do an adequate job finding the cemetery. When you arrive, please follow the people and signs to the site of the ceremony itself.

Parking Instructions

There is plenty of parking at this cemetery, so feel free to park in any available spot.

Ceremony and Volunteer Information

We are happy that you are willing to help with our Wreath Across America ceremony at Alta Vista Cemetery . Please do not forget to register to volunteer! That way you will get all updates about the cemetery itself.

Here are some things to remember about the ceremony:

  • Everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome.
  • Please help ensure that all participants get the opportunity to place a wreath.
  • Please follow the location coordinators instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as "how" they should be placed.
  • We especially appreciate volunteers willing to help clean-up. Please check in with the location coordinator if you are interested in helping with the clean-up.

The most important thing to remember is to have a wonderful experience participating in the ceremony and thank you so much for help Wreaths achieve our mission to remember, honor and teach.
