by Jennifer McCreary for Cecil Terrill, Army, Sergeant, Passed On 08/14/18, Honored by Ridgelawn Cemetery

Cecil Terrill served overseas in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater with the 9th Air Force. He flew in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTOUSA) and then the European Theater of Operations (ETO). He and his younger brother had the distinction of service in the same B-26 ‘Marauder’ Medium Bombardment Squadron as aerial gunners. This was highly irregular, particularly considering they were the only surviving children of their parents. He also served as an aerial engineer. As an aerial engineer-gunner, he checked the aircraft before flight, made repairs and adjustments in flight to correct mechanical problems, assisted in the operation of flight controls, power plant components and other equipment. He served as an aerial gunner. He served as an aerial gunner when under attack from enemy aircraft, with duties that included manning a machine gun position, informing the flight crew of approaching enemy aircraft, and servicing weapons and turrets in flight. He flew 15 combat missions. Awarded the Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and WW II Victory Medal. Honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant and issued the Honorable Service Lapel Button.
