In Memory Of for John J. O'Neill, United States Military, Honored by Hardinsburg Cemetery

In Loving Memory of Captain John J. O’Neill Jr. Firefighter. Soldier. Father. Legacy. It’s been 30 years since you left this earth, Dad, and yet, your presence still guides me. I’ve always been proud of the life you led—the sacrifices you made for our family and our community. I only wish you’d had more time to see us grow, to witness the strength of the family you built. Today, I choose this wreath to honor you. To remember your service to our great nation, and the burdens you carried that I wish you hadn’t had to bear. I place it with love, respect, and gratitude—for all you gave. You were a man of many roles: Captain, Norwalk Connecticut Fire Department (1953–1978) Private First Class, U.S. Army Mechanized Infantry, Korean War (11 months) Entrepreneur, Owner of Suburban Limousine and Cargo Inc. Community Leader, Past President of the Lordship Father’s Club Veteran, Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars You were a loving husband to Mom, Jean. A father to four sons and seven daughters. A grandfather to 27 grandchildren. A great-grandfather to 20—and counting. You came from a proud firefighting legacy. Your father, Deputy Chief John J. O’Neill Sr., and your brothers, Captain William P. O’Neill and Thomas F. O’Neill, all served before you. Together, you set the standard. As Chief Yost once said, “He was one more member of a family that set the standard for firefighting.” You were a proud member of Local 830 of the International Firefighters Association and the Connecticut State Fireman's Association. But above all, you were my Dad. So today, I say: Thank you. I love you. Say hello to Mom. And keep on dancing.
