This photo, taken when we were stationed in the Philippines, also holds my brother Dean, whom we lost nearly two years ago. Every time he was back on the East Coast, he never missed a chance to visit Dad’s grave at Arlington — a tradition that meant so much to him. During the holidays, he would even ask friends who lived in the D.C. area to visit and take photos of Dad’s grave with a holiday wreath, which is why the Wreaths Across America initiative means so much to our family. Remembering them both this holiday season with love. JUNE 25, 1925 - SEPT. 1, 2008 Henry Jacob Volk was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Hank moved to Salem, Oregon, before joining the US Navy during WWII, from 1943 to 1946, as a Radioman Third Class on the USS Rocky Mountain. After the navy he returned to Salem and then moved to Turlock, CA after meeting and marrying his wife. His wife, Dorothy Jean Volk, passed away, November 29, 2016. Hank is survived by his children, Greg Volk, Rebecca Fodor, and Julie Threet. He leaves his grandchildren Alexa Rivera, Savanna Schaffer, Adam Volk and Juliette Schaffer.
