He joined the US Navy in 1953 with a buddy & retired in 1977. He began his career as an Aviation Ordnanceman serving on the USS Salisbury Sound (AV-13) and the USS Randolph (CV-15).He changed his rate to Aviation Fire Control Technician (AQ). As an AQ he was stationed at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA. and was assigned to A6/A6E squadrons (VA-42, VA-65, VA-34) and made many deployments on the USS Constellation (CV-64), USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) and the USS Independence (CV/CVA-62) during the Vietnam war. He was admired by his shipmates for his critical thinking skills and his deep knowledge of the aircraft. His intelligence was evident in the way he managed complex situations, earning him respect throughout his Navy career.He was a "Sailor's Sailor" with a wonderful dry sense of humor! Following his retirement, he continued his service with the US Navy at NAVAIR for an additional 30 years, contributing significantly as a key member of the Configuration Management Team within the F/A-18 Program Office (PMA-265). My dad, Eugene Burr served in the United States Navy during World War II, he was deployed to the South Pacific in the Navy Construction Battalion -- he was a proud Seabee. He passed away suddenly in August 1990 and my mom LaDonna C. Burr passed in October 2022. They both served in the VFW and American Legion for decades. Merry Christmas, mom and dad.Love, Mara
