Wreaths Across America comes to Peterborough
Local residents braved the cold, and deep new-fallen snow to take part in Wreaths Across America last Saturday and honor veterans buried in Peterborough’s East Hill, Pine Hill and Village cemeteries, following a ceremony at the town’s Memorial Gate on Grove Street.
At the gate, an audience of about 40 people witnessed solemn remarks, a color guard made up of U.S. Naval Sea Cadets (Monadnock Squadron, sponsored by American Legion Armstrong-Cheney Post #5, Peterborough) and Girl Scouts (Troops 12300 of Peterborough and 60248 of Bennington), placing of wreaths for each of the armed services, merchant marines, and POW/MIA, and the playing of taps. Similar ceremonies happened simultaneously across the country at 3700 sites.
