Pfc. Donald L. Short, a 21-year-old marine, was accidentally drowned in the Marshall Islands shortly after the invasion, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Short of Owego. He joined the marines July 18, 1942. Surviving besides his parents are three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd J. Casterline of Tioga Center and Mrs. Frank Short of Apalachin.
