He finished a two-year service and then left the Navy. After two more years of being unable to find permanent work and create a living for himself and his new wife, our mother, he rejoined the Navy and spent the next 22 years serving his country. He was so proud of his service, first as a mechanic, then as an Air Traffic Controller, and in his last years as an Operations Officer. He was In solitary for over 5 yrs and finally went into a group. He wove our Flag into his uniform for the men to say the pledge each day out of a found scrap of material, The flag was found and the uniform taken. He was tortured and beaten but did it over again.
