As America prepares to celebrate its 250th Birthday on July 4, 2026, communities across the country are coming together through Freedom Bells, a nationwide initiative that invites Americans to participate in a synchronized bell-ringing at noon local time.

With less than one month remaining until Independence Day, communities in 46 states have already registered to participate, and organizers anticipate representation from all 50 states by July 4th. The growing response reflects a shared desire to commemorate this historic milestone and celebrate the ideals that have shaped our nation for two and a half centuries.

Freedom Bells encourages Americans to gather in town squares, schools, veterans halls, libraries, community centers, front yards, and other public spaces to ring bells together in a moment of reflection, gratitude, and celebration. Participants are also invited to submit “Birthday Wishes” to America through FreedomBells.org, creating a lasting collection of messages honoring the nation's past and future.

For many Americans, the celebration brings back memories of the nation's Bicentennial in 1976. One participant from Madisonville, Texas, shared, “I remember the Bicentennial when I was a child and I am thrilled to be here for the 250th! Happy Birthday America! What an honor to live in the greatest country on earth!”

Another participant from Lake County, Ohio, reflected on the broader meaning of the occasion: “America 250 reminds us not only of our past, but of our shared responsibility to preserve and protect it for future generations.”

Communities across the nation are already incorporating Freedom Bells into local America 250 celebrations. In Rapid City, South Dakota, the ceremony will be part of the city's official festivities. Veterans organizations, historical societies, libraries, schools, and civic groups nationwide are organizing bell-ringing ceremonies and community gatherings centered around the noon observance.

To help participants create meaningful local events, Freedom Bells provides a free Ceremony Web App featuring a synchronized countdown to noon, ceremony resources, digital bell options, historical readings, a digital copy of the Declaration of Independence, opportunities for reflection, and commemorative participation certificates.

America's 250th Birthday presents a unique opportunity to reflect on the principles that founded our nation, celebrate the freedoms we enjoy, and pass those stories and traditions to future generations. Whether participating as an individual, family, school, civic organization, or community group, all Americans are invited to join in this historic nationwide celebration.

Participation is free and open to everyone. To register, submit a Birthday Wish to America, or learn more, visit FreedomBells.org
